9th Annual Dribblethon
May 11, 2013 @ 9:30 am - 1:00 pm
The annual, free event is a favorite with kids, teens and grownups, and drew nearly 400 people in 2012.
Basketball hoops will spring up across from Washington Park between 12th and 14th and Race Street. This year’s celebration includes local churches as part of Awaken the City and the Ndukwe Foundation (founded by former Notre Dame and Cincinnati Bengal defensive back Chinedum Ndukwe). Partnering with the Cincinnati Youth Collaborative, Awaken the City hopes to set a new world record for the most mentors and mentees dribbling a basketball together at the same time.
Registration begins in the Park at 9:30 a.m. at Race and 13th Streets. Dribblethon is open and free to kids and youth of all ages. Adults can also register for a small donation.
The Dribblethon also include 3-on-3 tournaments on Open Hoops placed up and down Race Street between 12th and 14th Streets. At 10:00 a.m. is the Team Dribble competition. A free Dribblethon basketball is given to the first 400 participants. Food and drink provided. Past and present players and coaches from Xavier University, University of Cincinnati, and Northern Kentucky University men’s and women’s basketball teams provide the star power for the day.
