The world’s pro beach volleyball stage shifts back across the pond from London’s Historic Horse Guard Parade to Cincinnati’s Washington Park. Riding the wave of record-breaking Olympic media exposure, television ratings, and fan enthusiasm, the Association of Volleyball Professionals (AVP) is hosting the top U.S. and Olympic beach volleyball stars to compete at its 2012 AVP Cincinnati Open. The AVP Cincinnati Open, touting U.S. pro beach volleyball’s highest 2012 regular season prize purse to date of $175,000, will serve as the official qualifiying event for the AVP Championships in Santa Barbara, California, will showcase the 24 men’s and 24 women’s pro beach teams. Beyond beach volleyball, the AVP Cincinnati Open will feature nationally renowned music acts as well as an array of regional talent after 8:00 PM Friday and Saturday.
This event is ticketed, with tickets available for purchase at www.CincyTicket.com. It is also important to note that three sand volleyball courts will be constructed on Elm Street between Music Hall and Washington Park. For this reason, Elm Street – and the Elm Street entrance to Washington Park Garage – will be closed to traffic from 6:00 PM Tuesday August 28 until 5:00 AM Tuesday September 4. The Race Street entrance/exit to the Washington Park Garage will remain open.
In addition, (this weekend only) there will be NO OUTSIDE FOOD, DRINKS, or COOLERS allowed into the Park. These are NOT permanent rules, but are instead related to the previously established AVP GUIDELINES. There will, however, be plenty of food vendors in the Park to see to your dining needs, including: Senate, Taste of Belgium, Papa John’s, Qdoba and MORE.
Who doesn’t like a little music with their volleyball? The AVP Summer Splash kicks off at 5PM with a special appearance by The Cliftones, followed by performances from international reggae giants, Milton Blake and Mikey General! This performance is ticketed, but folks who have already purchased tickets for the day will be allowed in at no additional cost.
