Cozy Curiosities
Details
Cozy Curiosities features a collection of yarnbombing installations throughout the park created by members of our local knitting group, The Bombshells of Cincinnati.
The colorful outdoor art exhibit of yarn and fiber will be on display in Washington Park throughout the winter months for patrons to admire at any time, but they can be best enjoyed during the two P&G Winter Series pillar events – The Fiber Art Market & Mittenfest!
Thank you to our talent partners at The Bombshells of Cincinnati for bringing this installation to life and to P&G for sponsoring all winter events in Washington Park!
COVID19 procedures for Washington Park events will be evaluated and adjusted as CDC, state and local guidelines change. As always, please stay home if you are exhibiting symptoms of COVID19 and practice good hygiene.
Installation Descriptions
The Eyes have it: With eyes all around, this tree sees the good in our community members and witnesses all the love and
kindness taking place throughout the park, especially at the hugging tree. Besties with the Fun guy across the park. This tree inspires those to see good in our neighbors and our community.
I’m a Fun guy: Let’s break it down. This tree is the life of the park and spews spores of happiness. We lichen the idea of nature and you moss agree to mold people accountable for their morrells. Don’t let these hard times decompose you, and spring up from the rotten actions of others.
Technicolor Garden: Winter can be a hard time for many people especially during a pandemic. Less daylight hours and the pandemic keeping us away from our loved ones fighting seasonal depression can be particularly challenging. This tree is designed to bring some beauty back into the season to lift the
spirits and help fight the winter blues.
Realized River Dreams: These topographical maps of the Ohio River follow the vibrant energy of the river from Delhi to New Richmond. Inspired by those who dreamed of what the Ohio River valley could be, this tree represents the flow of the
river that defines Cincinnati.
Mitten Tree: Volunteers from all over the greater Cincinnati area have come together to make mittens for those in need. Over 300 pairs of handmade mittens have been distributed to organizations in the area to warm the hands and hearts that
need it most. This tree bears some of the handmade pairs for those with cold hands that require immediate warmth to take.
Hedgehog Pride: This tree was designed to give fellow LGBTQ+ community a safe place to go when they are feeling
down or need a hug. Inspired by the Hedgehog of one of our beloved Bombshells who has always been a great support to
her. This tree is for anyone who is struggling or feels alone in the world. You can hug the soft sculpture and feel the support of our bombshell’s incredibly cute and supportive hedgehog
@pototababeynick. Now you also have a hedgehog that cares about you.
Ms. Pinky Purl: This friendly spider has worked so hard to
make mittens and spread kindness, love and giving throughout
the park. Ms. Purl love’s to make mittens for not only her eight
arms and legs, but also for her children’s. Inspired by her
generosity we have made mittens for those in need on our
mitten tree located across the park
Hugging tree: The tree that hugs you back. The whole family can give and receive love together with this interactive tree. I want to hold you: Everyone at some point likes to be held. Rest in my hands for feelings of warmth and connectedness.
Hashtag (Banner Tree): Take a selfie and tweet, our mittens are warm and sweet. I have this thing for Butterflies: Fly with confidence and
grace, life does not have to be perfect to be beautiful. Butterflies remind us to keep it simple and to live in the moment.
Love and Warm Wishes from the furry residents of Washington Park: The woodland animals of Washington Park have gathered for a photo op. They offer hugs for passersby for this interactive piece.
Thing one: We knit in the day
We sleep in the night
Don’t be afraid to hug me too tight
For this cold weather
You have a sweater
A warm pair of mittens will make you feel better.
Thing two: Knit one purl two
We made these mittens just for you
To knit or crochet no matter to us
As long as you have mittens while you wait for the bus
Brought to you by
