“The Tempest” by William Shakespeare

Directed by Billy Chace

Featuring Cincinnati Shakespeare’s Touring Company: Charlie Cromer, Travis Emery, Jessie Wray Goodman, Sam Rabinovitz, Maggie Lou Rader & Zach Schute

Join CSC on a desert island to explore this tale of magic, monsters, sorcerers and sprites!  Prospero and his daughter Miranda have been banished and shipwrecked for 12 years.  To gain revenge on his evil brother Antonio, Prospero uses his book of magic to infiltrate the mortal world while a newcomer on the island steals the heart of his beautiful and innocent daughter.  Add a sprinkle of true love, a dose of conspiracy, a large ladle of comedy and you have the rich, spell-binding story of “The Tempest”!

Also on September 9th (Before The Show)…

What has four legs and two voices?

Find out on Sunday, September 9th, 2012 in Washington Park when ArtsWave Presents a free performance of Cincinnati Shakespeare Company’s Shakespeare in the Park production of The Tempest at 7:00 p.m. Shakespeare’s romantic comedy of magic and monsters comes alive through unique interactive elements that allow the audience to help create part of the show.

The family-friendly performance is presented by ArtsWave, in partnership with Cincinnati Shakespeare Company (CSC) and the Cincinnati Center City Development Corporation (3CDC).

Free arts events bring families and neighbors together.  In this special performance, the audience will collectively create special effects by waving fabric, making noise, lighting up their cell phones and more. No special skills or preparation is required to participate. Kids can enjoy face-painting and art-making starting at 6:00 p.m., plus special music by the Young Heirlooms.

Together we’ll transform Washington Park’s civic lawn into the a magical island full of sprites, fairies, and monsters and discover what has four legs and two voices!

Admission to Shakespeare in the Park is free and open to the public. Audiences are strongly encouraged to arrive early to get the best seats. Picnics and well-behaved pets are welcome. For additional information on CSC’s 2012 Shakespeare in the Park Tour, including additional performances, visit the website at www.cincyshakes.com or contact Jeanna Vella at jeanna.vella@cincyshakes.com
